CEO of PVR requests producers to hold back film’s release on the digital platform until theatres open again

As a result of this pandemic, theatres were one of the first places to shut down as lockdown is
implemented in several places.
Therefore, the official release of several movies in theatres was either postponed or on hiatus
for the time being.
Moreover, due to this pandemic and this difficult time, the filmmakers and producers of
several movies have decided to release them directly on the digital platform.
Movies such as ‘Gulabo Sitabo’, which stars Ayushmann Khurrana and Amitabh Bachchan,
was one of the first one to disclose that they would be releasing the movie on the digital
platform.
Shortly after, the news got followed by the news of the movie ‘Shakuntala Devi’ is also set to
take the digital route. Vidhya Balan is playing the lead role in the film.
Many people were disappointed by the news, especially Mr. Kamal Gianchandani – the CEO
of PVR Pictures. He told PTI that they are confident that once the pandemic ends, the
demand of the people to go to the theatres will increase as people who are stuck at home for
the past weeks will want to go out and enjoy themselves.
He stated that he is disappointed with some of the producers who decided to go for the
streaming platforms. Furthermore, the requested them to take back their decision and hold the
film’s release until the pandemic ends and the theatres open again.
